Showtime Next
Disc Jockey

Agency: eyeball
Role: Concept, Director, Writer, Video Editor

In 2000, Showtime approached Eyeball to create interstitials for the launch their millenial-targeted Showtime Next channel. As a budding musician and filmmaker, I pitched my dream project: interview ten young DJs and animate shorts-within-shorts of their worst gig ever.

We traveled across the country filming DJ Craze, Disco D (RIP), Vinroc, DJ Icon, DJ Charly, Infamous, Reid Speed, Terrac, Star Eyes, and DJ Verb, while back in the studio we designed anime-styled characters and unique styles for each of the prodigious talents.

2000-2001 was a time of musical convergence. There were scenes for every genre in every city, and yet I learned just how broad the musical influences were for every DJ, regardless of what style you played in clubs. We followed these young and immensely talented DJs from San Francisco to Detroit to New York to Miami. Our stills photographer Ray Weitzenberg captured many unique moments on 35mm on our journey and I’m happy to have unarchived them to share here.
